SÃO PAULO GP RECEIVES FIA ENVIRONMENTAL RECOGNITION PLAQUE
The event obtained the three-star certification from the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme.
Increasingly committed to ESG issues, the Formula 1 São Paulo GP received this Saturday (Nov. 7) a plaque that officially recognizes the achievement of the maximum level of environmental recognition from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). The event obtained the 3-Star certification from the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme.
The third star was granted by the world motorsport governing body in November of last year. This weekend, the CEO of the São Paulo GP, Alan Adler, received the plaque that confirms the evolution of the work and results of the event in its environmental management system. The presentation of the plaque was made by the Brazilian Fabiana Ecclestone, FIA Vice President for Sport in South America, with the presence of Giovanni Guerra, president of the Brazilian Automobile Confederation (CBA).
Previously, the GP had the 2-Star level certificate. Upon entering the program in 2023, it displayed the 1-Star level. The FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme supports motorsport organizations in assessing and continuously improving their environmental performance, considering aspects such as energy and emissions management, responsible use of resources, waste management, practices applicable to the supply chain, definition of responsibilities, and monitoring of results.
“The São Paulo GP seeks to be connected with the interests of society. We want to be disseminating agents of the culture of environmental preservation and of care and respect for people. Therefore, we are happy with the FIA’s recognition of the work we are doing to mitigate the impact of our operations, such as the correct disposal and reuse of generated solid waste and the pursuit of energy efficiency,” states Alan Adler, CEO of the São Paulo GP.
The stage of the GP, the Interlagos circuit also achieved the 3-Star level in 2025, after undergoing its own independent evaluation process. The achievement was obtained with the help of the São Paulo GP through the Sustainable Social Circuit Program (Programa Autódromo Social Sustentável), which supports improvements in the permanent infrastructure of the circuit, including the implementation of a Sorting Center and a photovoltaic plant, in addition to landscaping interventions and other works.
“Motorsport has proven that world-class competitions and environmental advances can go hand in hand. Through the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme, we are offering organizations a clear roadmap to raise their standards and turn ambitions into real and measurable actions. Reaching the highest level, three stars, is a great achievement, and we congratulate the São Paulo Grand Prix for this result. It is a strong signal that our sport is not only heading in the right direction but also setting the pace for a more sustainable future,” stated Willem Groenewald, FIA Secretary General for Automobile Mobility, Sustainability, and Tourism.
In the last year, the São Paulo GP also advanced in offsetting emissions. For the fifth consecutive year, the event neutralized most of its emissions by acquiring 3,491 carbon credits (CERs), covering the 3,300 tons of CO₂ from the direct operation and the 191 tons related to an audience displacement activation.
To reach such a number, the GP expanded its renewable energy matrix at the circuit. The photovoltaic installations of Grandstand B operated continuously throughout the year. The operation generated 127,394 kWh, resulting in savings of approximately R$ 65,000. At the same time, the event used 10,000 liters of national B100 type biodiesel (100% pure) in generators. The initiative of having a fleet composed of three electric vehicles, 67 electric motorcycles, and 44 electric golf carts also contributed.
